What is a celebrant?
As an independent celebrant I create highly personalised ceremonies which reflect the person/couple I’m working with. Celebrants are able to design ceremonies which incorporate spiritual, secular, cultural or blended beliefs. We’re also able to work just about anywhere- you need the owners permission!
What areas do you cover?
Norfolk, Suffolk and beyond! I’m happy to travel, and if you’re having a destination wedding, great, count me in! If I’m heading out of Norfolk, there will be a travel charge/price of a train ticket/accomodation fee- but we can chat about that when we meet!
Weddings- is the ceremony legal?
No, currently celebrant-led weddings are not legal within England and Wales (hopefully that’s changing soon!) To be legally married you will need to book in with your local register office and sign all of the paperwork. You can get a simple ceremony called a 2 plus 2 and it usually costs around £60. Then you’re all set for your big day, and able to fully personalise your ceremony with me!
How far in advance should I book you?
Weddings, 6-18 months, Funerals, as soon as you need support, I will prioritise urgent availability. Naming Ceremonies- 4-12 weeks is typical but shorter notice is often possible.
Can we customise every part of the ceremony?
Absolutely, my role is to help you shape and craft a ceremony which truly reflects you! Everything from tone, music, readings, rituals, symbolism, structure and wording.
Do you offer writing or speech support?
Yes! I will be guiding you through writing your vows, tributes, readings and promises and supporting family members who want to speak too.
Celebrations of Life-Is this the same as funerals?
A celebration of life usually happens after a funeral, in a place meaningful to the person who has died. There is flexibility over theme, content and is usually an uplifting occasion. Funerals will take place in traditional settings such as a burial ground or crematorium, and there will be a fixed schedule, more formal proceedings and a committal will take place.
Are children's funerals really free?
Yes, if your child has died, first of all I’m so sorry for your loss. No parent should have to arrange a funeral for their child. Any child under the age of 18, I will provide my services for free. The Chidren’s Funeral Fund is a Government scheme which will cover some of the costs for the funeral, speak with your Funeral Director who will be able to provide more information or take a look at this link: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/claim-for-costs-of-a-childs-funeral-childrens-funeral-fund-for-england/how-to-claim-for-costs-of-a-childs-funeral
Do you work with funeral directors?
Yes, I’ll be working with your funeral director to make sure the day flows smoothly, including timings, music, logistics, and ceremony order.
Do you provide the eulogy?
If you need support writing the eulogy, then absolutely, and if on the day you’re unable to deliver the eulogy, I will deliver it on your behalf.
Are naming ceremonies legally binding?
No, however they are symbolic and celebratory!
